A Runway to Sustainability : How technology and the natural environment is affecting SAA
Organisations operate in a global challenging and fast changing world. The challenges present opportunities that required quick response from companies to remain competitive, profitable, and sustainable in a long run. For the organisation to survive need to understand and respond to certain factors like technology and environment which are one of FTI`s force factor theory that affect the businesses. SAA exist in environment which influences what they do, regulatory and natural environment.
The airline industry is one of eccentric industry that is impacted by several factors externally. According to Whittington et al., (2020) external environment is made of uncontrollable factors that have impact on the organisation’s decision making and its performance.
Regulatory environment –are govern by legislation to promote economic environment and direct responsible help organisation behaviour in business environment. SAA is affected by environmental regulation on the contribution of green gas emissions from ground airport vehicles, those use by passengers and staff to access airport building (Steyn & Mhlanga,2017). The regulation has penalties that help control carbon emission.
Natural environment- involve changes in climate, air, and water these important factors impact the ability of business activities. Aircraft also contribute part of transportation that increases pollution in the environment and furthermore its engines emit heat, noise and gases which contribute to climate changes and global dimming (Forsytn,2011)
However
since the movement restrictions the level of impacts towards the business is reduced
and that provide SAA opportunity to achieve its commitment of being a leader in
sustainable environment policies in the aviation industry
(SAA Environmental policy).
